What would you vote for your website?

How does our website have to be to have all the cards in order? What are the aspects to take care of in order to have a good website? What do we have to do to make our business known?

I’m posting our short guide, which points out and explains the key aspects of being able to take advantage of our investments in the web field.

A successful website is the result of the combination of different aspects, such as:

  • a good user experience
  • the richness of content
  • a correct professional image
  • immediateness in the contact page
  • good integration with social networks

We analyse these characteristics individually in order to fully understand their importance.

User experience

User Experience (better known as User Experience ) means what a person experiences when using a product, system or service. The user experience includes personal perceptions on aspects such as utility, simplicity of use and efficiency of the system.

A website is a communication tool between the brand and its users, so for it to work well it is necessary that the user is at the centre: the User Experience is one of the first elements of evaluation.
To recognize the usability of our site, you need to ask yourself a fundamental question: the user can use the site in a correct and functional way, or is somehow hindered?
There are many factors that influence the user experience on our site, among them the visual impact is definitely a key aspect. If the design is able to strike and create harmony with the user, the latter will be interested in deepening the content and flip through the other pages of our portal. It is not enough to insert interesting and original contents, just think of the reaction that we would have when visiting a site made up of only text, without distinctive graphic elements, that would strike us and guide us within the site: we would leave the page as it would not have attracted our attention and would be difficult to consult.
However, the graphic study of the site can not only stop at an attractive design, you must also take into account the readability of the contents and the intuitiveness of the structure of the site. The colour combinations, typography and positioning of the elements will therefore be important. To improve the legibility of the pages, the characters, size and spacing of the text and the highlighting of the links must be taken care of.
The graphic design becomes a fundamental component, and not secondary to the actual text component of our portal, and will activate the user’s desire to deepen the knowledge of our site.

Content richness

The content on our site must represent what users really want on the net, and we must provide it in the form in which they would like to find it.
First we have to create original contents. Our site should not be the result of a wise “Copy-On” work, but should present new arguments.
We must then write in a direct and concrete way: it is very important that the content offers the necessary information, without taking anything for granted, and we must also use the language of the user, using terms that everyone can understand.
The form in which we write our articles should not be overlooked. The reader on the web is looking for traces of our reliability, offering him a text full of errors means therefore, give him good reasons to leave our site.
We must exploit all possible forms of content: text, images, videos, … But we must never underestimate the correct declination of web pages for different devices, let’s not forget that desktop and mobile devices have different uses and formats.
Finally, let’s not forget that quality content is synonymous with SEO optimization of our site. The better our articles are, the more visibility we will be able to give to our website in the Web world.

Professional image

In the era of Web 2.0, our professional image is no longer created by curriculum vitae, degrees and work experience. Today the Web is the fundamental tool to create our professional reputation, it is therefore essential to take care of our online branding.
Let’s try to search for our name or brand on different search engines. The results of the search reflect what we want to pass on to our customers?
Fundamental in this regard will be cure the contents of our site, to ensure that they exactly reflect the image that we want to represent us. However, our reputation is not only linked to our institutional website.
In fact, our “social” profiles will appear among the first results of our research. We should therefore take care of them in detail. On both Facebook and Linkedin we should follow and actively participate in groups and profiles of interest to us, with comments and questions to make ourselves known. Attention then to Facebook, its structure pushes us to insert images and personal comments. It will therefore be a good idea to carefully check the sharing and privacy settings, so as not to affect our professional image.
Another fundamental channel to create a strong brand is Twitter. Here we could create a network of contacts in line with our professionalism, dealing with the issues of our industry with originality.

Contacts

The user of the site, after having been won over by our arguments, wants to have confirmation that the company or organization with which he wants to get in touch is just the one that interests him and that has the characteristics that he identified in the site.
If you want to do business with us, you will want to know if we are a sole proprietorship or a joint stock company, you will want to know where the registered office is and any operational and production facilities. If you are looking for the services we offer, you will want to make sure that the company is not too far away. If you are looking for information, you will want to understand if the person providing it is a non-profit organization, a research center or a company specializing in the field.
All this information must be easily available and of good order will be inserted in the page “Contacts” of our site.
Badly realizing such a page can mean losing important opportunities.
The page layout of the page is fundamental, the information must be easily accessible at a glance. As for the other contents of the site, we should therefore also think about the mobile version of the page, so as to highlight our contacts even on smaller screens and why not, take advantage of new technologies by enabling the immediate call via smartphone or geolocation on maps in your mobile device.
The data that should not be missing are undoubtedly a phone number to which customers can reach us and possibly opening hours during which they are sure to have an answer. We will also have to report a email address, which indicates our willingness to be contacted by anyone with an internet connection.
We could then decide to insert a contact form, a map to give a glance at our geographical location, the fax number and many other company information. The important thing is that they are organized in an intuitive way and that they allow the user to contact us easily.

Social

It is no longer enough to create a corporate website, today it is essential to integrate our portal with our presence on the Social Network. The social business, thanks to these tools, allows innovative actions directed to our customers offering us many advantages.
Social networks allow us to quickly get in touch with the desired target group. The website will create a solid and professional image of our company, but the social network will open the way for us to direct contact with the consumer. We will be able to dialogue with customers, taking advantage of their opinions and opinions. The social networks will allow us to advertise our band in a viral way, a “like” on our Facebook page, will make sure that the friends of our contact know our company and maybe click in turn making it known to friends of friends and so on.
In addition, social sites are among the busiest, linking our site with social pages will mean to be easily tracked and then we will increase visits to our site.
Each social has different potentialities, integrating more social networks we will be able to optimize our communication strategy maximizing also the interactivity from the users.
